Beyond the Moon

Beyond the Moon

One thing I won't be talking about is the moon. If you have done any research into show, don’t tell, you have probably seen this quote from Anton Chekhov.

“Don't tell me the moon is shining. Show me the glint of light on broken glass.”

Members of my newsletter got a rant about how much I despise Anton Chekov at this point. Nothing personal, Anton. I'm sure he's a great guy. He was just writing a letter to his brother or something and everybody latched on to this quote.

I despise Anton because I did not understand it when I was a new writer. Veteran writers that I would ask for help would just look at me and be like, "This is the way," and that was supposed to explain everything.

Show, don't tell is a lot more than the moon. So we will not be talking about that.
