Today is my fabulous co-writer, Genevieve Lynne's Birthday!
She is amazing and I'm lucky to have her. So I hope she has a terrific birthday! It is also Friday the 13th. So if you're looking for some bad luck stories, you can check out this previous Friday the 13th Plot Swap.
But today, we're talking birthdays!
Let's start with a sweet story.
So these kids were at a little boy's birthday party and wanted to play in the kiddie pool. They were trying to fill it up by bring containers of water from the sink inside. The firefighters were leaving a medical call, saw these kids hard at work, and decided to help them out. If that isn't a meet-cute story waiting to happen, I don't know what it is! Think about a single mom, or maybe a childless aunt who bought a kiddie pool and didn't think about how they would fill it, and the good-hearted fireman who tells his buddies they need to help these kids out. *swoon*
And just to be sure I offer equal opportunity...
Another sweet story. No one came to this little girl's party so a group of police officers showed up. The girl was thrilled and the pictures show everyone as all smiles. But what if...the mom actually kidnapped the girl (maybe even for a altruistic reason*—to save her from an abusive home or drug addicted parents)? She never expected the police to become so closely involved with her child. What does she do now? What if one of the officer recognized the dad as having warrants? Or the mom's boyfriend as being a registered sex-offender? What does the officer do then?
*Just to be clear: I am in no way advocating kidnapping a child for any reason.
And now things we will NOT be doing to celebrate Genny's birthday...
This woman decided to go parasailing to celebrate her 29th birthday and the FREAKING ROPE BROKE! The story has a happy ending. She was injured, but lived. She had some previous skydiving experience so she knew how to anchor herself and try to steer. I would have just had a heart attack and died in the air. Utmost respect to this woman!
So many possibilities for a story. You know those rom-coms where the person is always trying out something adventurous to prove they aren't boring? What happens when that goes wrong? Of course, the darker side of my mind went immediately to sabotage and the investigation that would follow. Or what if this happened years ago and gave your character a debilitating fear of heights, but now they have to jump out of an airplane to save someone they love? Or, you know, the world.
That's what I have for you this week! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GENNY!
Next week is my birthday so we'll have a similar theme, but with some personal stories.
So swap with me! What great or not-so-great birthday experiences have you had? How could them make an interesting story?
