Friday Plot Swap

Dawn's Plot Swap
Have a plot? Leave one.
Need a plot ? Take one.
It's been a long week. Poor blog got ignored most of the week, but I wanted to be sure and not disappoint my Plot Swap readers.

So, here is what I have for you.

I needed a laugh more than anything else this week. These made me smile.

Oops, I meant to say:

Must have been quite a party:

Officials are puzzled over a mysterious hot tub that was installed — and then removed — from the roof of a building on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor.
What do a Chicken McNugget and George Washington have in common? The same squishy profile, according to a Nebraska woman who has put her three-year-old George Washington Chicken McNugget on eBay , where it has currently drawn a high bid of $4,400.

So, how has your week been? Heard any good plots lately? I know these are kind of silly, but you could make some good stuff from them. Imagine being the PR person who had to put the spin the governor's "slip". What if it wasn't a slip?
Maybe the hot tub was part of a romantic night to impress a girl? I mean, it is a college.
Swap with me.

Friday Plot Swap~ Musical Style

Dawn's Plot Swap

Have a plot? Leave one.

Need a plot ? Take one.

We haven't had a musical swap in a while.

For some reason I got on a Drink and Dial Kick. :)
This is what I have for you this week:

Last Call
Lee Ann Womack
I recognized your number,
It's burned into my brain,
Felt my heart beating faster,
Every time it rang.
Some things never change,
That's why I didn't answer.

My favorite line:
I bet you're in a bar.
It's always the same old song.
That Johnny Walker Red,
By now it's almost gone.
But baby, I won't be there
To catch you when you fall.
I bet you're in bar
'Cause I'm always your last call

What do you want from me?
Jerrod Niemann
Why’d you call me today with nothing new to say?
You pretend it’s just hello, but you know what it does to me to see your number on the phone.

My Favorite line:

What do you want me to say?
That I’m content? That I’m on the fence? That I wish you would’ve stayed?
Oh baby what do you want, what do you want, what do you want from me?
To come here and make love tonight cause you’re feelin’ lonely.

Lips of an Angel
Jack Ingram
Honey, why you calling me so late? It's kinda hard to talk right now. Honey, why you crying? is everything okay? I gotta whisper cause I can't be too loud Well, my girl's in the next room Sometimes I wish she was you I guess we never really moved on

My favorite line:
Does he know you're talking to me? Will it start a fight?
No, I don't think she has a clue

On Again Tonight
Trent Willmon

I'm glad you picked up the phone.Yeah, I know that we both agreed,We'd leave each other alone. We're just wastin' our time,We know it ain't right. There's no goin' back, but havin' said that:

My Favorite line:
I don't expect things to change.
We've got to get on with our lives.
Space is a beautiful thing,
When you need some room.
I don't know about you, but I'm lonely right now:
I'm just thinkin' out loud.

So, swap with me. Any of your characters pulling a drunk and dial?
What songs do you have going through your head this week?
What would you make of these?

Friday Plot Swap~ As Seen On TV

Have a plot? Leave one

I went to a workshop once where the presenter compared loglines to the little blurbs you see on your TV guide. As an experiment I scrolled through my guide for some plot ideas and give you these basics plot lines.
What could you make from this starting point?
Check back later this weekend and I'll post what movies they represent.

 Death at a Funeral
So, swap with me! Got a logline to share? From movies, television? Your own WIP?

Friday Plot Swap: Cute Meet Stye

Dawn's Plot Swap
Have a plot? Leave one

Let's swap cute meets this week.
For those of you not into romance writing, here is a definition for Urbandictionary.com:
Scenario in which two individuals are brought together in some unlikely, zany, destined-to-fall-in-love-and-be-together-forever sort of way (the more unusual, the better).

My first one for today is a personal story. My great-grandma was one of my all-time favorite people. She drove a mustang well into her 80's and had three husbands before it was fashionable. I always loved to hear her tell the story of how she met her first husband:
"A girl I knew in town was having a party. I went with a gentlemen friend named, Sam. Now, mind you, he was just a friend. In those days, the men would all gather on the porch to smoke.  After we had been at the party awhile, it was getting late and I needed to be heading home. I looked around for Sam. When I didn't find him, I thought he must be on the porch with the other men.
It was dark  and when I stepped out on the porch, I couldn't see anything so I just said, "Sam, I'm ready to go home now."
This handsome man that I had never seen before stepped up and said, "Well, I don't think we've met, but my name is Sam and I'd be happy to take you home."  So, I let him.

This is what else I have for you this week:

[A]woman in a hurry cut off another driver Thursday, then flashed him her middle finger. Unfortunately for her, that other driver turned out be [a]Milwaukee County Sheriff.
What if he was a handsome, single, county sheriff who is also assigned to oversee her community service sentence?

A little strangeness to brighten your plots today!
First a little music to get you in the mood.

One of the versions I read said the clerk didn't even know who Gumby was and described it as a "Big Green Spongebob."

Bear Takes Family's Prius for Spin, Leaves It Wrecked

How would you like to have to explain that one to your insurance company? Maybe a good start to a romantic comedy.

Police in Ohio were working Saturday to determine who dumped more than 1,600 pairs of panties by the side of a road...

So many ways this one could go!

So, swap with me! What's going on in your world (real or creative) that could fit into my file of "How Bizarre!"

Depending on your genre, they could make some interesting dialogue.

Under what circumstance could one of your characters say this?

Have a great weekend! For those of you off on Monday for Labor Day, I hope it is a nice, relaxing weekend.

Be sure to stop by on Tuesday! I will be doing my first book review!

Friday Plot Swap~World of Weirdness

Friday Plot Swap

Dawn's Plot Swap
Have a plot? Leave one
Need a plot ? Take one
This week, we are entering the World of Weirdness. Some of these stories have interesting characters to inspire you. Some of them have plots that will make you shake your head and said, "Huh?".  Some of them have both.
Like this one:

An Upper East Side couple grieving over the loss of a stuffed toy monkey they’ve raised like a son the past decade went bananas with joy Saturday night after being reunited with their beloved Beanie Baby.
(Really, you need to read the whole story to grasp the, um, originality of these people)

Three people in Beatrice, Neb., were charged after a woman allegedly asked her friends to stab her so she could avoid a probation hearing,
(I have some great friends. Amazingly enough, I don't see any of them doing this for me.)

Doctors were baffled when a British man told them, "I can hear my eyeballs moving." But they finally diagnosed that Stephen Mabbutt had a rare ear condition in which sounds inside the body are heard very loudly,
(I have no comment on this one.)

So, swap with me! What kind of weirdness is going on in your world *real or imaginary*?

A good mystery always has a twist. A popular version of this is the character living the "double life".  The perfect wife and mother turns out to be a government spy.  The all-American husband turns out to be a psychotic killer. So, today, let's talk about the double life.
Here are some examples I have for you:

So, swap with me!

Reality Style
Ever have something happen to you or someone around you that would make a great plot?

Here is what I have for you this Friday:
For those of you writing YA:
When I was fourteen, I met a boy at an amusement park. He lived across the country. After seeing each other twice that weekend, we wrote letters every week (no cell phones or internet) for three years. A week before my senior prom, I broke up with my boyfriend and as a graduation gift, my parents flew my pen-pal down to be my date.
For those of writing mystery or suspense:
Three members of my mom's immediate family all died in the same week in July. Exactly 8 years apart.

For those of you writing paranormal:
My oldest daughter had an imaginary friend until she was five. Her friend's name was "Grammy" and, obviously, a grandmother type. She had all of her Pre-K teachers convinced Grammy was real. She talked about spending weekends with Grammy, getting ice cream and Grammy's cute dog having an accident on the rug. This was all sweet until she started talking about Grammy spanking her with a tree limb. This is a child who has never been swatted with anything other than a hand in her life and has never seen any one beat with a "switch". The weirdest was one night when she told me about going to see Grammy. But Grammy was in bed, wouldn't wake up and her face was blue. Then she didn't talk about Grammy anymore.
So, swap with me! What's happened to you or someone around you or your neighbor's cousin's sister-in-law's best friend that would make a great plot?

Paul Walker and Gerald Butler
What's not to like?

Which is based on this book by Michael Crichton.

And, what discussion of time travel would be complete without
Back to the Future ?
I decided to include the ZZ Top video that summarizes the whole trilogy.

And I will confess to having a HUGE crush on Michael J. Fox, until I found out he is short.
So, swap with me. What is your favorite Time Travel plot (book or movie)?
Bonus: If you could time travel, "when" would you go and why?

While some of the post are quite disturbing, they would definitely make for an interesting plot.
Here are a few that got my mind working:

I needed a laugh today. All of these would fit best in a romantic comedy.

So, what's got you laughing today?

So, today's Friday Plot Swap is boy band style :)

Lots of inspiration.)

The Hardest Thing~ 98 Degrees
On Bended Knee~ Boys II Men
(Everything you need for a romance novel.)

So, swap me!
Don't be ashamed.
You know you have some boy band favorites.
Just to make you more comfortable

Now you feel better,
don't you?

Friday Plots Swap~ Dream style

Dawn's Plot Swap
Have a plot? Leave one
Need a plot ? Take one

You might have heard of a little series called Twilight.
Love it or hate it. You have to admit it is successful and according to Stephanie Meyer. It all started with a dream.
"I woke up (on that June 2nd) from a very vivid dream. In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods."

Do your dreams ever provide inspiration?

Recently, I dreamed I went for a walk in the dark near a river. I was trying to avoid walking into several spiderwebs when I saw two boats chasing each other on the river. The boats were the skimmer kind, like people use in swamps. One man was on the first boat, but there were two men in the second. The man steering the first boat looked over his shoulder. I could see the terror in his face as one of the men on the second boat raised a shotgun.

I guess paranormal writers dream about vampires. Evidently, suspense writers dream about chases and gun fire.

So, swap me! Had any good dreams lately? Had any bad dreams lately?

Mental Health Day

Tell Me Your Story Tuesday

Mental Health Day
This is actually a picture of a mud puddle.

I am taking the day off.
I never just use a personal day unless I have a sick kid, mom in the hospital or a three-inch deep river flooding from my hot water heater through my house.

Thankfully, I am experiencing none of that at the moment.
I am still taking the day off.

One of my dear friends from college, a man no less, taught me the value of a mental health day. He would often abandon all of us and take what he referred to as a "me day". It usually involved taking himself to lunch, a movie and some shopping.
Today, for reasons I won't bore you with here,
I desperately need a "Me Day".

I haven't decided exactly what to do.
Other than, nothing I don't want to do.
So, Tell Me Your Story. Do you take Me Days? If you do or could, what would you do? What would be your favorite place to spend a day alone?

Maybe you have heard that some are predicting the end of the world tomorrow. In that case, you won't need any of these.

While I am pretty sure we are all still going to be hanging out on May 22nd, this article about the May 21st believers caught my attention :

What if the world is still around on May 22nd? I think how these people will go on and if they will manage to rebuild their lives could be a fascinating story.

This article about
caught my eye also.
I particularly liked #23

Last, I know it has been done.
This is a slightly different take on a

It would be interesting to incorporate into a sweet romance about someone trying to accomplish these before the end of the world.
(Skip the dying at the end part~I am a happily ever after person. Except for the people I kill off in my murder mysteries, but you know how that goes. )

So, swap with me! There is a good possibility, at least in my world, that we are all still going to be here tomorrow. If that is the case, then I will have some writing to do!

Any ideas floating around you want to share with us?

Here is what I have for you this Friday: Weekend
This post brought to you late due to Blogger's little hiccup
This week I stuck on locations. Sometimes, the location itself can be a characters in the story.

Plenty of ideas for a suspense, thriller or paranormal

Great pictures. Perfect for a treasure hunting adventure story.

Pictures from all over with short narratives.

So, swap with me! What locations do you know that are dying to share their stories with you? Have you ever looked at a scene and just known there was a story waiting for you?
