Police, Pranks and Popping the Question

Dawn's Plot Swap
Have a plot? Leave one.
Need a plot ? Take one.
I went for a little bit of variety this week.

You know this is a "Rogue, hard-boiled detective gets slapped back to traffic duty but uncovers the crime of his career" story waiting to happen! Or, if you prefer romance, "speeding woman swerves to miss a leprechaun in the road and is ticketed by the hot police officer of her dreams."
Can you think of any better ideas?
My first thought with this one was
But there are several other ways this could go, maybe the number wasn't random. Maybe the girl knows something and was trying to get help. Or maybe it doesn't go to a police officer, but someone else who strikes up a friendly conversation claiming to be a classmate from her school, but is he really what he says?

The lure of a $6000 diamond ring on the special date of February 29 prompted a Dunedin woman to pop the question...

I loved that she asked him. Evidently, there is some kind of English tradition of woman asking men on Leap Day. So much you could do with that.
So, Swap with me! Could you make something good out of these? What do you have going on in your WIP right now? Heard any good plots lately ?

We haven't had a musical swap in a while.

For some reason I got on a Drink and Dial Kick. :)
This is what I have for you this week:

Last Call
Lee Ann Womack
I recognized your number,
It's burned into my brain,
Felt my heart beating faster,
Every time it rang.
Some things never change,
That's why I didn't answer.

My favorite line:
I bet you're in a bar.
It's always the same old song.
That Johnny Walker Red,
By now it's almost gone.
But baby, I won't be there
To catch you when you fall.
I bet you're in bar
'Cause I'm always your last call

What do you want from me?
Jerrod Niemann
Why’d you call me today with nothing new to say?
You pretend it’s just hello, but you know what it does to me to see your number on the phone.

My Favorite line:

What do you want me to say?
That I’m content? That I’m on the fence? That I wish you would’ve stayed?
Oh baby what do you want, what do you want, what do you want from me?
To come here and make love tonight cause you’re feelin’ lonely.

Lips of an Angel
Jack Ingram
Honey, why you calling me so late? It's kinda hard to talk right now. Honey, why you crying? is everything okay? I gotta whisper cause I can't be too loud Well, my girl's in the next room Sometimes I wish she was you I guess we never really moved on

My favorite line:
Does he know you're talking to me? Will it start a fight?
No, I don't think she has a clue

On Again Tonight
Trent Willmon

I'm glad you picked up the phone.Yeah, I know that we both agreed,We'd leave each other alone. We're just wastin' our time,We know it ain't right. There's no goin' back, but havin' said that:

My Favorite line:
I don't expect things to change.
We've got to get on with our lives.
Space is a beautiful thing,
When you need some room.
I don't know about you, but I'm lonely right now:
I'm just thinkin' out loud.

So, swap with me. Any of your characters pulling a drunk and dial?
What songs do you have going through your head this week?
What would you make of these?

Friday Plot Swap~ As Seen On TV

I went to a workshop once where the presenter compared loglines to the little blurbs you see on your TV guide. As an experiment I scrolled through my guide for some plot ideas and give you these basics plot lines.
What could you make from this starting point?
Check back later this weekend and I'll post what movies they represent.

 Death at a Funeral
So, swap with me! Got a logline to share? From movies, television? Your own WIP?

In honor of Olivia Kelly's guest post yesterday, I decided to make today a musical swap. I dug into my OneNote files and pulled out some of my character's theme songs.
Here is what I have for you today:
This is Justin's song. He's hesitant to leave his heart unprotected again, but he can't deny his feelings for Charleigh.
I almost said I love you
Could I really be that kind of guy
See one candle burning in your eye
And watch my heart fill up with butterflies
I almost said I need you
Girl I shouldn't go there anymore
Act like I never been in love before
You probably think it's my first time
This one is for Luke. Poor guy, he had convinced himself he was over Gloria. Never wanted to see her again. Until the day he come home to find her sleeping in his bed.
You took a hammer to these walls,
Dragged the memories down the hall,
Packed your bags and walked away.
There was nothing I could say.
And when you slammed the front door shut,
A lot of others opened up,
So did my eyes so I could see
That you never were the best for me.
And last, we have this for Race. The world he ruled was shattered when the witness he was protecting died in front him.  But, now, Haylie is standing in front of him, needing more protection than he could ever offer.

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning, I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
* I prefer this version, but Coldplay's isn't bad either.
So swap me ! What songs fit your characters? Or your story? What songs tell the story you wish you could write?

Friday Plot Swap: Cute Meet Stye

Dawn's Plot Swap

Let's swap cute meets this week.
For those of you not into romance writing, here is a definition for Urbandictionary.com:
Scenario in which two individuals are brought together in some unlikely, zany, destined-to-fall-in-love-and-be-together-forever sort of way (the more unusual, the better).

My first one for today is a personal story. My great-grandma was one of my all-time favorite people. She drove a mustang well into her 80's and had three husbands before it was fashionable. I always loved to hear her tell the story of how she met her first husband:
"A girl I knew in town was having a party. I went with a gentlemen friend named, Sam. Now, mind you, he was just a friend. In those days, the men would all gather on the porch to smoke.  After we had been at the party awhile, it was getting late and I needed to be heading home. I looked around for Sam. When I didn't find him, I thought he must be on the porch with the other men.
It was dark  and when I stepped out on the porch, I couldn't see anything so I just said, "Sam, I'm ready to go home now."
This handsome man that I had never seen before stepped up and said, "Well, I don't think we've met, but my name is Sam and I'd be happy to take you home."  So, I let him.
This is what else I have for you this week:
[A]woman in a hurry cut off another driver Thursday, then flashed him her middle finger. Unfortunately for her, that other driver turned out be [a]Milwaukee County Sheriff.
What if he was a handsome, single, county sheriff who is also assigned to oversee her community service sentence?
